The Three Signs It Was Time To Let Go Of My Personal Training Career

The following three signs all happened on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.

One.  I was told that I am currently in the position I was always meant to be in by an employee that was leaving the company.

Two.  I received an application rejection notice from an online associate because I do not have enough traffic going to my website and didn’t sell any products within the 180 day limit. Sales is so not my thing.

Three.  I read an article on Breakingmuscle.com titled, “Where Do Personal Trainers Go To Die?” by Eric C. Stevens. This article really gave me the closure I needed.

I have been fighting an inner battle since I let my personal training certificate lapse five months and 2 days ago, after 18 years of being a Certified Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor.  I was proud of that position. It wasn’t just a job title, it defined who I was. But, it also made me feel like a hypocrite when I ate bad and let myself go because family and career came first, and my workouts took a back seat.

For almost two decades I switched between an office job for a steady income and regular hours, to being a personal trainer, missing my daughter breaking the school record at a track meet because I had a scheduled yoga class, then back to an office job so I could spend time with family.
So, what happens when it finally sinks in that my personal training career is over? I don’t have the drive or the energy to work the hours required to own my own business. I have my own gym in my garage, which I have been utilizing and hope to eventually compete in my Golden Years. (No wait time for equipment.) I can also sell any supplements I take online, no store front required.

I didn’t do a very good job of building my brand, KeepFitness Fun, so making money from my website is a no go at this point in time. I love to help people, coach them, make them feel good, and share the knowledge I gain from other people and my constant desire to learn about the human body.  I still have the Keep Fitness Fun website, blog, and Facebook page to share information that I feel will benefit parts of the population.  However, I have finally realized that I will not be retiring off the mass amounts of money made through my website and my brand.

I am currently working as a corporate trainer, meaning I train people how to do their jobs. I have been told multiple times by the employees that I am in the position I was meant to be in. I am a teacher and a coach. I love learning, making things more efficient and easier for the employees, and just helping people succeed.

I am where I am meant to be.
