I am well into week three of Cory Gregory's Squat Every Day program and loving it. At the end of week
two, I squatted a weight I hadn't done in fifteen years. Granted, fifteen years
ago, I did this particular weight for reps versus my one rep max, but I was
personal training and working out all the time back then. Now, I am a 45 year
old woman who hasn't seriously squatted in years and is at least 35 pounds over
fat.
Throughout the last fifteen years I have had people look at
me and say, “Oh, you work out?” Ok, so those are the people that run 16 miles a
day for fun, or have the hard body I had back when I was training in my
twenties, but still, that comment is a serious hard hit to the ego.
More people, especially those around me, call me a fitness
freak because I watch what I eat and park as far away from a building as
possible for the walk. However, I am overweight and out of shape, so obviously
I am doing something wrong. Answer to that, lack of serious exercise and snacking
between the time I get home and the time dinner is done.
What changed three weeks ago? Maybe my Isagenix AgelessEssentials with Product B Isagenisis kicked in. Maybe it was the wonderful spring
weather. Maybe it was my love of squats.
Something about this program just sucked me in and I HAD to try it.
So, I loaded up on my NOW Foods L-Glutamine Pure Powder, 1-Pound
to boost my immune system. That
is another reason that I am rather out of shape right now. EVERY time I get
serious about exercise, I get sick. Week long stomach virus, bad cold, whatever
is going around at the time, I will catch.
So this time, I am playing it smart. I did get sick to my stomach the
first week in, but I called into work and managed to still get my squat workout
in. It may have been weak, but it was completed. I already had ( NOW Foods Beta Alanine Powder 500G
on
hand from last year when I thought sprinting on the track with the kids daily
was a good idea, and of course, my hubby’s favorite, NOW Foods Creatine Powder, 2.2 Pounds
.
With my log book and phone in hand, I started the easy to
follow program. I LOVE it! Squatting EVERY day? What an amazing feeling! I felt
like I grew three inches taller the first week. Ok, I probably felt taller
because there wasn't a muscle in my body that would bend, forcing me to stand
up stick straight and walk like I had one up my batooty. Let’s just say sitting
was seriously painful.
The second week I was
putting up the weights from 15 years ago. What I thought would be my 1RM felt
light and doable. Yes, the sickness set in and I took a couple days off during
the week for work and track meets, but by day 7, the strength was back full
force.
This week is holding strong, though I am not getting the
upper body workout in due to time constraints. My daughter is home visiting and
I need to spend SOME time with her. She
did lift with me the first day, haven’t gotten her back since. What will the
end of the third week hold? Hopefully what was my 1RM last week will be my weight
for the 3 rep section of the program.
What do I love most about Cory Gregory’s Squat Every Day program? It brought my true self back. The one my husband married. The part of me that was put in a box and held
deep down inside for the last fifteen years. I am once again looking forward to
power lifting competitions in the future. And who knows, maybe figure
competitions when I am in my 70s!
